Gym Floating Floors
Free-weight drops and treadmill impacts generate the highest dynamic loads in any commercial building. Sylomer-based floating slabs decouple the gym entirely from the structure below.
Mwendo is South Africa's specialist in vibration and structure-borne noise isolation — the Southern African partner for Getzner Sylomer® and AMC Mecanocaucho. We help architects, acoustic consultants, and developers stop noise where it starts: at the structural connection.
Most noise complaints in modern buildings aren't about loud sounds — they're about vibrations that travel through concrete, steel, and timber, then re-radiate as sound somewhere else entirely.
A treadmill on the third floor becomes a rumble in a meeting room on the first. A rooftop chiller becomes a hum in an executive bedroom two storeys down. A passing train becomes a sleepless night in an apartment thirty metres away.
Conventional acoustic treatments — absorption panels, drywall, ceiling tiles — don't solve this. Structure-borne noise has to be isolated at the structural connection itself, using elastomers tuned to a specific natural frequency for the load and frequency range involved. That is what we do.
Every project is sized to its actual loads and target frequencies — but most fall into one of these six application families.

Footfall, voices, and appliance noise between floors are the leading cause of tenant complaints. Elastic bearings sized to your slab build-up and load profile.
AMC Akustik+Sylomer® hangers suspend ceilings on calibrated elastic mounts, blocking impact noise from the floor above before it reaches the room below.
Independent partition systems decoupled from the structural shell. Essential for recording studios, screening rooms, and hotel party walls.
Chillers, cooling towers, generators, and pumps mounted on Sylomer pads or AMC Vibrasorber spring isolators to stop equipment vibration entering the building structure.
Turbines, hydraulic presses, and compressors generate high-force periodic loads that transmit directly through factory slabs into connected structures. Sylomer pads and AMC anti-vibration mounts isolate the machine at the point of contact, protecting the building and adjacent workspaces.
We work from your acoustic consultant's targets — or provide guidance if there isn't a report yet.
We size the isolation system to the actual load, build-up, and target natural frequency, backed by 50+ years of European test data and proven modelled simulations.
We supply specialist items directly from Bürs (Austria) and Asteasu (Spain) to your project site.
Installation guidance and, where the project warrants it, on-site verification.
The global leader in polyurethane-based vibration isolation. Sylomer®, Sylodyn®, and Sylodamp® are specified on rail networks, concert halls, and high-rise buildings worldwide. Mwendo is the Southern African distribution partner.
The European reference for acoustic ceiling and wall isolation. AMC's Akustik hanger range and gym floor systems combine rubber-metal engineering with Sylomer® elastomers. Mwendo distributes the full AMC acoustic range across Southern Africa.
Send us the acoustic brief, the architect's section, or just a description of the problem. We'll come back with the materials, the engineering, and a clear price.
